Position Summary

 

Deckerville Public Library is seeking a dependable leader to serve as our next Library Director. Located in the Village of Deckerville, our library serves a population of 3,979 and pride ourselves on providing materials and services for residents of all ages.

 

The Director serves as the chief administrative officer, reporting to a six-member Board of Trustees. Director Job Description

 

 

 

I.                   The Director’s administrative duties will be to:

 

A.     Establish and administer an overall library program and coordinate the implementation of such programs as approved by the Deckerville Public Library Board.

 

B.      Hire, evaluate and terminate staff.

 

C.     Supervise, schedule, and train staff.

 

D.    Establish and follow policies and procedures for effective utilization of materials, resources and staff.

 

E.     Prepare budget recommendations, recommend revisions in planned expenditures, and make expenditures within the budget allotments.

 

F.      Interpret library policies to the staff and public.

 

G.    Maintain good public relations.

 

H.    Establish regular evaluations of overall program goals and their effectiveness.

 

I.        Supply current statistical data to the Library Board.

 

J.       Cooperate and consult with other area libraries and the White Pine Library Cooperative as necessary to the library’s needs and program implementation.

 

K.     Acquire and organize materials.

 

L.      Supervise circulations of materials and equipment.

 

M.  Develop community resources.

 

N.    Select and arrange furnishings and equipment with the approval of the Library Board.

 

O.    Develop and utilize an effective selection policy.

 

P.     Help analyze the library’s strengths and weaknesses; recommend plans for the library’s growth and means for implementing the plans.

 

Q.    Complete State Aid and other necessary statistical reports.

 

R.     Attend all regular and special Library Board meetings, reporting to the Library Board on the library’s progress and problems.

 

II.                 The Library Director’s  technical duties will be to:

 

A.     Control work flow.

 

B.     Coordinate the processing of materials.

 

C.     Maintain the Library Catalog records.

 

D.    Control the circulation system.

 

E.     Maintain current records on overdue materials and implement the procedures for their return.

 

F.      Select and order supplies.

 

G.    Implement a regular inventory.

 

H.    Keep daily fiscal and statistical records.

 

I.        Determine when the library will be closed for Act of God related incidents (See page 15 of this manual for this procedure)

 

III.              The Library Director’s clerical duties will be to:

 

A.     Operate the basic office machines.

 

B.     Channel outgoing and incoming mail.

 

C.     File correspondence, catalogs, and miscellaneous records.

 

D.    Identify and store equipment.

 

E.     Coordinate use of equipment.
